Although many want to keep this information secret, it's crucial to our design process that we have an accurate idea of our client's budget. Here's an analogy that may help explain: You're out to a restaurant and you'd like a bottle of wine. You tell the sommelier what you like and what you may be eating so they can choose a proper bottle for you. Without giving the sommelier an idea of how much you're looking to spend there is no way they can do their job effectively. They may have a $50 bottle, a $150 bottle, and a $500 bottle that all fit the bill. The sommelier wants to pick the best bottle for YOU.
